Solvothermal Synthesis and Analysis of PtNi-alloy Nanoparticles for Fuel Cell Application

The aim of this thesis was to produce catalysts for fuel cells that consist of the smallest amount of platinum for the largest active surface. Therefore, PtNi-nanoparticles were synthesized with polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) and glycerol, by solvothermal synthesis. Furthermore, they were supported with carbon so that they could be used as effective catalysts in fuel cells. After that the particles were separated from the solvent by three different separation techniques (filtration, centrifugation and Büchner-fitration). Finally, it was analysed how effective the nanoparticles would be in a fuel cell by UV/Vis-Spectroscopy and transmission electron microscopy (TEM).
